Jazz and the Sea: The Nice International Jazz Festival 2012

Nice has been home to France’s premier summer International Jazz Festival since 1948, as well as to some of the genre’s most celebrated musicians—Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Armstrong, and Miles Davis, to name a few. Somehow the summer sun, sea, and sandy beaches of Nice make the perfect complement to the fabulous jazz performed by some of the world’s finest musicians.

During five days in July nearly 30,000 people visit this fabled Mediterranean resort town to enjoy the music that livens every street corner and the beachfront. The main concert hall venue, Place Masséna, sets the stage for the headliners. This year the illustrious international performers include Dee Dee Bridgewater; Eryka Badu; Dr. John; the Mali sensation, Tinariwen; Ahmad Jamal; Herbie Hancock, and many more.
