Fireworks over Cannes

Since 1967, the International Fireworks Festival has dazzled and delighted Cannes visitors and residents (200,000 each night to be approximately exact) with its pyrotechnical wizardry set to music. As if the area’s natural beauty weren’t enough, the 900-foot-long bay reflects the dripping colors that arc across the sky, from the Esteral Mountains to Pointe Croisette. Every balcony, terrace, boat deck, cafĂ©, bench and inch on the promenade is taken with spectators lucky enough to enjoy such a sight during their visit.

The final two evenings of the Festival for 2011 are Monday, August 15, when Russia shows off its flair for drama, and Wednesday, August 24, when the heavens give way to Italy. The shows run 25-30 minutes long and are, of course, free.
