The hottest ticket in Provence this summer is to the exhibition that celebrates the huge influence of Paul Cezanne on Pablo Picasso’s artistic development.
The recently renovated Museé Granet in Aix en Provence, showcases more than 100 works from international private and public collections – paintings, drawings, watercolors, engravings, and sculptures that give us a glimpse into the professional and personal friendship these two artists enjoyed.
Complementing the exhibition is the first-ever public opening of the 17th-century Chateau in Vauvenargues, which Picasso bought in 1958. He and his wife Jacqueline lived there from 1959-1965, and it is where they are both buried. Picasso chose this site in tribute to his friend and mentor: “I live where Cezanne lives.”
The Museé Granet is open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday hours are noon to 9 p.m. The exhibit runs through September 27, 2009.
